5Gishy Goo RocksMay 19, 2011
By Bryan K. Johns
I just wanted to sing the praises of Gishy Goo! First, let me give a little background. I don't actually have braces. Between 2008 and 2009, I was undergoing very aggressive chemo and radiation treatment for stage 4 head and neck cancer. Right now, I'm cancer free. We're in the process of reconstructing me from the ravages of the treament. One of those ravages was the loss of the ability to swallow. I'm working with an otalaryngolgist to fix that. About 10 days ago, I underwent the third and hopefully final surgery before starting therapy.

Anyway, on this last surgery, while they had a huge scope jammed in my mouth and down my throat, they broke the bone sockets that hold in my teeth and had to place some crazy wires through my gums and around my teeth to hold them in while the bone heals. They're very similar looking to braces in some places but they are on the gum instead of my teeth. What makes them so bad, is that there are also twisted stainless steel wires that protrude in a couple of places nearly a quarter of an inch. This twisted wire is how they tightened everything down. Cutting it off really isn't a viable option because that will loosen everything.

I tried the standard wax for several days. It just wasn't cutting it. I've literally used up every pack of that wax I could find from every pharmacy in the area. I was getting desperate and starting to wish they hadn't tried to save my teeth and just went ahead and pulled them. Then I discovered Gishy Goo! and placed an order. It arrived yesterday, WHAT A DIFFERENCE! It's a little expensive for the small amount you get and considering that I'll have to use significantly more of it than someone with regular braces would. However, it'll be worth it if I can keep from literally shredding my lips until the wires are ready to come out.

3There are other ways to solve the problemJul 03, 2011

First reaction - gosh, I hope my teeth are not that color!
Next I wondered how to tell when it was mixed - then it was too late.
When I finally got it on the bracket that was causing the problem, the surface texture seemed rough and there seemed to be a taste, but it did stay on for over a day, so it worked.

Easier solution (and much less cost): Macks Pillow Soft Earplugs - big gobs of pure silicone that will also stay on for over a day with no taste and not as visible as tooth colored goo!

5Gishy Goo!May 12, 2010

I really like this stuff. For during the day, wax is fine and not many people will notice it. For night time wax doesn't do so well, ater a while its smooshed into the brackets and not really a barrier anymore. This gishy goo turns into a hard rubbery barrier and didn't move all night. It takes a time or two to perfect using it, cause if you mix it too long it sets up in your hand, and turns into a bouncy rubber ball. I use it only at night, cause its a bit expensive to be using all the time....i get wax pretty cheap at [...]. The first color i got was the tooth colored, but i'm pretty sure people in space could see it in my mouth, which means i'll never put it on before i go to the store. So next time i'll have some fun with red and blue.

4a little pricey, but works very wellApr 01, 2011

I got this for my daughter when she first got her dental appliance installed. This holds very well and lasts for hours. She applied the goop at about 0500, flew a few hundred miles, ate lunch, took a nap, ate dinner, and played with the little ones for hours before it finally started to fall off. She applied another dab just before bed and that one lasted through the night and much of the following day. So it is pricey, but when you consider how many of the wax packs it potentially replaces, it's worth it.

I will echo what the other reviewer wrote though. When we first got it, I put a dab on my finger and started to form the ball just to see how long you had to mix it all together. It was a few seconds. When my daughter tried it the first time, she messed it up and had to start over.

We got the tooth coloured version and it didn't seem that bad, but she only had it towards the back of her mouth. when she gets the full braces, we may feel differently.

I'd happily recommend it to anyone and have shared it with her orthodontist.

5The Best!!!Jan 27, 2012

This is the best stuff ever. I have a huge wire coming out of my braces and wax was just not cutting it. The wire was making a hole in my cheek. This stuff stuck to the wire and stayed so that my cheek could heal.
